Former Atomic Security Guard Trusts PCM with His Care
Could you tell us your name and where you worked?
My name is Vaughn, and I worked overnight security at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Atomic Energy Commission.
What kind of work did you do at your site?
I was in charge of all buildings, securing transportation of nuclear weapons which included trains, trucks and airplanes. I conducted reviews, or “shakedowns,” of offices and buildings. I was also in charge of people coming in and out. For several years, I was a part of the Restoration Advisory Board, which was involved in clean-up, demolition, what was buried or burned, and where it happened at the facility.
How do you feel about the impact your work made in U.S. history?
It was the Cold War period of time. If we hadn’t done our jobs, we would probably be speaking something other than English.
How long have you been a PCM client?
I’ve been a PCM client since 2022, but I attended multiple town halls even before receiving my U.S. Department of Labor medical benefits white card.
How has PCM helped you out?
It’s nice to have someone checking on my well-being. My PCM care team has knowledge of my medical history and uses context from the past to support my present and future.
Would you recommend PCM to a friend, and if so why?
Yes, I would recommend PCM to a friend. They bring knowledge of available options and services that I may not be aware of.
